Dear Jessica,
Just got a chance to sit down and write. First let me say that the service In
Italy provided for our trip was outstanding. We didn't encounter a single problem
with our hotel reservations, rental car, museum tickets, etc. Bravo!
The Relais Villa di Cortona was very nice. It's in a beautiful setting with a small vineyard on one side and the town of Cortona in the distance. We ate at the Relais restaurant both nights we were there and the food was pretty good. We didn't care for our room which was on the first floor just off the main entrance. The only window overlooks the courtyard by the front door and it can get noisy and isn't very private. We asked for an upgrade, but as luck would have it the Relais was booked solid the next night so we stayed put. The public area is very well furnished and cozy with stone arches, flowers, a wine bar etc.
We will be going back to Italy this September and will be in touch with you
soon about our itinerary. In the interests of brevity, I haven't included every
detail of the trip. If you would like more info about any of the hotels or restaurants
or anything else please let me know. I can be quite eloquent when necessary.
Also, feel free to use any of the above on the website.
Thanks for a great experience,
Conrad L.
Hi,
We had a great time in Italy. Let's start with the car folks. Excellent service, great car, no surprises. The nightmare was the return spot in Florence. We had to hire a cab and follow it to the drop off point! It's funnier now than while in Florence.
Relais Villa di Cortona was a very nice hotel and of course the people were
wonderful. The room was funky and we did upgrade to a larger more interesting
room. The only down side was the irregularity of the floor which would be
a problem for older folks in the dark or even in the light. We are aware
of it because Patti had a hip replacement and is cautious. Not mentioned
in the info you sent is a WONDERFULL restaurant just down the road, recommended
by the folks at the Relais. Il Melone. We are gourmet travelers and actually
went back 2 nights in a row because the menu and preparation was so wonderfull.
Ricardo, our waiter did all the work, speaks very good english and really
works to please. Being off season the first night we were the only folks
and the second night just a few tables. Everything was wonderful and of the
highest quality. Gloria at the Relais arranged for us to visit with a wine
maker (we live in a vineyard and collect wine) in Montalcino to try her Brunellos.
What a delight and a nice effort on the Relais' part. The breakfast was wonderful!
Thanks
Robbie R.
