Inside an astonishing 15th-century palace across the river from the Uffizi, the must-see
Palatine Gallery exhibit includes works by no less than 650 16th- and 17th-century artists, including Raphael, Rubens, Murillo, Andrea del Sarto, Fra Filippo Lippi, Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto. The gallery still resembles the sumptuous royal palace in which it is housed, and its elaborate rooms are filled with tapestries, frescoes and gilded stuccos.

The remarkable Modern Art collection is housed in 30 rooms and offers a complete overview
of Italian painting, from the Neoclassical period to the 20th century, organized in chronological order and
by subject. Included is a wonderful collection of works by the Macchiaioli,
Italian precursors to the Impressionists.
